The Chicane 112 workshop is housed in two magnificent sheds dating back to 1890, originally built at the "Malonne Port" site, which used to house the tram convoys of the Namur - Malonne - Saint-Gérard line.
The first section of this 8km line, linking Namur to Malonne Port, via Salzinnes and Bauce, was opened in 1892. Three years later, the line was completed, serving Malpas, Insepré, Bois-de-Villers and Lesves. In Fond de Malonne, the tram line ran in its own right-of-way behind the houses (now Rue Ancien Rivage, behind the Night&Day, the Familia pharmacy and the Déli'Frites chip shop to Saint Berthuin). At that time, the cost of a first class journey between Namur and Malonne was 50 cents of Belgian Francs (or 1 cent of €).
Ironically, the Sambre, before its winding course was straightened to accommodate larger barges (between 1947 and 1970), passed in front of the famous tram sheds where is now located our boat restoration workshop.
As a concession of the Autonomous Port of Namur, the place was entirely renovated in 2021 by the company Chicane 112, families and friends. Inside, the magnificent wooden and steel roofing framework from the period has been exposed, cleaned and highlighted by quality lighting. The whole site has been completely cleaned up and embellished, while retaining the spirit of the workshop in which it was born. You can now come and have a coffee or a drink (only local products) in the reception area, and discuss your restoration project with the owner.
